Known as the ‘Yellowhammer State,’ Alabama uses the hammer on those gambling within state lines. Citizens of Alabama are breaking the law if they participate in the act of “risk[ing] something of value” on the “outcome of chance,” which includes everything from slots to sports betting. Despite this, some cities defy the outdated and ill-defined law, offering slots and bingo halls in certain cities anyway. If caught playing, however, there is a risk of fines and jail time. The state is especially tough on those caught gambling online, seeing online betting as a Class C Felony.
