The Hawkeye State is the first state to legalise gambling on a riverboat in the US – many of which are open 24 hours a day, allowing games, such as roulette, craps, blackjack, slots, and video poker. Despite being a mostly conservative state, Iowa is fairly liberal when it comes to gambling.
In addition, it also allows tribal casinos, pari-mutuel betting, charity games, a state lottery, and electronic skill games within racetracks. One small snag, however, is that any winnings over $1,200 are subject to a 5% fee to the Iowa Department of Revenue.
