It should come as no surprise that the politically conservative Texas, also known as the the Lone Star State, is also quite conservative when it comes to gambling. Whilst betting on horse racing and dog racing is permitted, the state does not allow casinos that offer games of chance. Saying that, there is one casino, however, it's located on tribal Native American land, so does not have to adhere to the same strict rules. Social gambling is also allowed, as is a state lottery, which helps to fund public schools.
