Bear River Casino & Hotel

Bear River Casino & Hotel is a tribal gaming and resort property just outside Eureka, California, in a tiny Native town called Loleta. About an hour south of the Oregon border, set against the backdrop of Arcata Bay, Bear River Casino & Hotel is a close drive for native Californians as well as people from across the Pacific Northwest.

Humboldt County is something of a tourist destination, both for its natural beauty and for its importance in the region’s burgeoning medical cannabis market. The famous Redwood National Park is nearby, as are several massive farmer’s markets and locavore restaurants.

Games

The Bear River Band is the tribe responsible for the operation of this property, which includes a small hotel (just over 100 rooms) and a pretty big gaming floor, at least in terms of a California casino. A dozen table games are available. Bear River hosts a weekly blackjack tournament, a sign of this casino’s taste for the game. At least six blackjack games (including some interesting rule variations) are available on any given night.

All casino games and slots are available 24 hours a day, except for certain holidays.

Restaurants & Bars

The Thirsty Bear Lounge is a combination bar and restaurant serving standard casual American food. There’s a heavy emphasis on local craft beers. The Thirsty Bear is also a local hot spot for live music, with a live performer or band every Friday and Saturday night.

The River’s Edge Restaurant is open for three meals a day, from 7 AM to 10 PM. The River’s Edge serves regional cuisine made with local ingredients. Open for brunch on Sundays.
