Dostal Alley Brewpub & Casino

More than 125 years after Central City, Colorado was founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush era, it has become a hotbed of legal casino gambling activity. Dostal Alley Brewpub & Casino is one of the new properties located in Central City, right in the thick of the Main Street action behind the Famous Bonanza.

The slogan of Dostal Alley outlines their offerings and philosophy in plain English – “Pizza. Gambling. Beer.” This facility combines a well-reviewed pizza restaurant, a popular craft brewery, and casino-style gambling. Opened in 1997, Dostal Alley combines the region’s newfound love of craft beer (more than two dozen microbreweries are operating in the same county as DA) with newly-legal casino gambling.

Games

The gaming area in Dostal Alley’s casino is spread across two floors. The only games available are slots and video poker – some 400 of them at the time of this review. No table games are available, due to state and local restrictions on games like blackjack and roulette. In fact, no electronic table machines are hosted either, just traditional slot and video poker terminals, including progressives and the latest licensed theme titles.

Restaurants & Bars

The attached Brewpub and brewery facility is home to an unassuming pizzeria, really just a storefront-size space putting out a small menu of hand-made pies during the brewpub’s open hours, 10 AM to midnight most days of the week. In 2012, the Colorado Daily named this brewpub’s anonymous pizza shack one of the ten best-kept secrets in Colorado food.

Other Facilities

Dostal Alley Brewpub is open from 10 AM to midnight Sunday through Thursday, extending its open hours to 2 AM on Friday and Saturday nights. The brewery makes a huge line of small-batch beers, some of which are available on a seasonal basis. Tours can be set up in advance, though the brewery is small and the atmosphere informal, so a reservation isn’t necessary except during the busiest parts of tourist season.
