Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is 120 miles outside New York City in the center of the naturally beautiful Wyoming Valley. Mohegan Sun, a tribal operation with gambling properties in seven US states, bought the racecourse Pocono Downs (a 5/8 mile harness race course) for $280 million in the year 2005 and have since converted the entire property into a racino.

The racino model is popular in this part of the US, where casino-style gambling has just recently become regulated, and where horse and dog racing have long been a part of the cultural heritage. Because of Wilkes-Barre’s position close to big urban population centers like NYC and Philadelphia, and because it is close to the borders of a couple of different more regulated gambling jurisdictions, it is a haven for native gamblers and visitors from out of town alike.
