Potawatomi Carter Casino Hotel is in Wabeno, Wisconsin, a small town in the north-eastern corner of the state, some seventy miles from Green Bay and Lake Michigan. This part of the state has a large Native population thanks to traditional and contemporary tribal and reservation land.
Those same land grants are responsible for the expansion of casino gambling state-wide, particularly in the area around Webeno, in the more rural areas of this mostly-rural state. Potawatomi is the name of a tribe that settled this area centuries before the arrival of Europeans – the name loosely translates as “keepers of fire,” a name given them by the Ojibwe tribal peoples from the same region of North America.
Today, tribal gaming and the tourism it brings is a big part of the local economy, alongside agriculture. This part of the state was historically very poor and undeveloped. Thanks to the presence of gaming venues like the Potawatomi Carter, unemployment is at an all-time low and new money is creating a mini economic boom.

Some form of electronic gaming is available at all hours of the property’s operation, from 8 AM to 2 AM most days, seven days a week, regardless of holidays.
